This version of the game can be traced back to the court of King Louis XIV in 1687 and an engraving by Claude Auguste Berey of Anne de Rohan-Chabot, Princess of Soubise who is shown posing with the game. The French literary magazine Mercure Galant contains a description of the board in their August 1687 edition, which is the first known reference to the game in print.
The rules are simple. Remove the first marble, and then jump one marble over another into an empty space until you have worked your way down to one marble.

Got this for GF -- she knows already but I think she'll really enjoy opening it up and playing with it once I give it to her.
Beautiful and modern chess set—better than expected.
Interestingly, this causes a handicap for my quite color-blind son, who struggles to distinguish my pink & orange pieces from his blue & green pieces.
Love the weight of these pieces. Product surpassed expectations
I love this chess set. Classic and top quality product and ChessnBoards provid ethe best customer service
While I typically do not like abstract chess sets, I bought this set for my wife. She loves it, and after giving it a close look I have to say I'm impressed. It is nicely weighted and the pieces are easy to tell apart. There may be some confusion telling the Knight from the Bishop, but once you realize the comical Bishop is based on his miter, and the octagonal Rook on its battlements, the Knight is the only piece remaining. In particular, I like the little cubes for the Pawns.
